Company Overview
Guardian Patient Advocates (also referred to as ‘GPA’ or ‘the Company’) was founded by Dr. Bert Bergland, a licensed physician with 40-plus years of practice experience, in 2011 in order to provide a patient advocacy service to those who find themselves mired in the intricacies of the modern medical world. The Company provides guidance and support to clients who find themselves or a family member in medical situations and who have concerns regarding their medical diagnosis and treatment.
Market Opportunity
In a time when personal medical decisions are increasingly influenced by third parties, from federal government programs such as Medicare, and "Obama-care" to health insurance company denials, there must be a place to which disillusioned, confused, overwhelmed patients and their families can turn for guidance. Patient advocates are emerging to fill a desperate need to provide direction, guidance, information, and answers when illnesses disrupt their lives.
Major illness and injury tend to overwhelm patients and families. When circumstances demand clear and rational decision-making, rarely do those involved have the resources and time to consider the available options involved in their medical care. Overwhelmed with the news of serious illness or injury, patients and families often do not think clearly or rationally. Rational decision-making is disrupted by fear and uncertainty. All too often, their doctor is busy with dozens of patients, and unable to offer the time necessary to explain a myriad of diagnostic and treatment options, leaving patients and their families confused and indecisive.
Most patients and families of patients know by intuition and experience that their medical care is substandard. Yet, most have no idea how to resolve such concerns. They are not comfortable confronting their physician with such concerns, fearing doing so may have adverse consequences. The most reassuring and effective solution to such concerns is intervention by an independent, experienced medical professional who represents the patient’s interest—the physician patient advocate.
The Solution
The Company offers a truly innovative concept for patient advocacy. GPA is unique in that it is the only patient advocacy business that is entirely physician based. Unlike other patient advocacy services that utilize non-medical personnel such as nurses and lay advocates, GPA utilizes only experienced physicians as patient advocates. In this way, GPA can offer nationwide assistance by medical physicians in clarifying options, explaining options, and researching options, giving the patient and family the time to come to terms with the unexpected. The overall mission of Guardian Patient Advocates is to serve its clients with medically experienced, professional attention to their health-related medical issues, as well as maintaining a caring, responsive and professional approach to their medically-related concerns.
GPA offers a unique and innovative approach that will result in substantial revenue generation within six months of launch, and substantial ROI is anticipated.
